Chess Master 2

Game Description: Play chess against the computer.

How to Play Chess Master 2:
  • Click the 'Play Chess' button.
  • Your chess pieces are the blue pieces at the bottom. The computer's pieces are the red pieces at the top.
  • You move first.
  • Click on the piece you wish to move.
  • The board will light up, and show every possible move for the piece you have selected.
  • Should you change your mind, just click on another piece before completing your turn.
  • To complete your turn, click the square where you wish to move.
  • The game will allow you to castle, but only on the king's side. To castle on the king's side, first click your king. Then, click your king's side rook to complete the castling move. Chess Master 2 does not recognize castling on the queen's side.
  • Chess Master 2 also does not recognize the En passant move.
  • You and the computer take turns until someone wins, or the game ends in a draw.
  • To begin a new game, click the 'Reset Game' button.

Chess Master 2 Playing Tips:
  • Chess Master 2 moves its pieces very fast. So fast, in fact, you may not even see the move. Fortunately, Chess Master 2 nicely displays all moves made by you and the computer. First, look at the 'Move time' box in the upper right corner of the game screen. If it says 'YOU', then you know the computer has made its move. Now look in the 'LOGS MOVE' box. The computer's last move will be shown at the top of the list.

Richard's Rating: 3 out of 5.

Comments: Chess Master 2 proves to be a decent chess opponent. It is probably equal to Flash Chess 3 in terms of difficulity and is definitely a superior opponent when compared to both Flash Chess and ZnemChess. Overall, it a nice chess game!

Yahoo Tennis

Game Description: Play tennis against the computer.

How to Play Yahoo Tennis:
  • Click the 'Start' button.
  • The first match you will play is against CPU1 (computer opponent number 1).
  • For all matches you are always the player at the bottom in the striped shirt.
  • You serve the first game. After that, you and your computer opponent take turns serving.
  • Control your player by moving your mouse.
  • Click your left mouse button to shoot.
  • Standard tennis scoring applies.
  • The first player to win 4 games wins the match!
  • If the computer wins the match the game is over.
  • If you win the match you get to play the next player, CPU2.
  • Your ultimate goal is to win the tournament by defeating each opponent you encounter.

Yahoo Tennis Playing Tips:
  • Try clicking your mouse early, then hold it down and release when you are ready to shoot. Holding your mouse down positions your racket early, and gives you more power on your shots. Once you learn this simple technique, you can hit the ball with more power and you will win many more points.
  • When you serve, you can move your player along the baseline to get different serving angles.
  • Don't forget to charge the net. This is necessary to return a short shot by your opponent. It can also be a good offensive tactic if you can get comfortable playing at the net.
  • CPU2 serves much harder than CPU1. You will notice the difference immediately. The best way to return the serve of a player that serves hard is to click your mouse early and hold it down. Then, release your mouse when you are ready to shoot. Again, what this does is it gets your racket in 'hitting position' early. Using this effective technique, not only will you be able to return the serve of CPU2, but you will actually be able to return service winners!

Indiana Jones & The Lost Treasure of Pharaoh

Game Description: Help Indiana Jones find the the lost treasure of Pharaoh, but watch out for the booby traps set to stop you.

How to Play Indiana Jones & The Lost Treasure of Pharaoh:
  • Use your left, right, and up arrow keys to help Indiana Jones get through each level.
  • Make it through each level to get to the next one.
  • When you fail, you start at the beginning of the level you are currently on. (You do not have to go back to the beginning of the game).
  • You may repeat each level as many times as you need.

Indiana Jones & The Lost Treasure of Pharaoh Playing Tips:
  • This is Richard. I am not going to be much help with this one. I am stuck on level 2. Does anyone know how to get past the four trap doors? If you are able to figure this out, please post a comment below and explain how you do this.

Richard's Rating: 3 out of 5.

Pro: Indiana Jones & The Lost Treasure of Pharaoh seems to be quite fun. Thankfully there is no time limit to get through each level. Plus you get unlimited lives! And isn't it nice that when you do fail a level, that you simply get to start the level again, and you don't need to go back to the beginning of the game.

Con: It would have been nice to have had a control to mute, or quiet, the music. Instead, you will need to adjust your computer speakers.

  • When your ball lands out of bounds, or in the water, you lose a shot, and you must replay the shot from the previous spot.
  • There are 18 holes to play. Par is 84.
  • Your goal, of course, is to complete the 18 holes using as few shots as possible.

Using this map will help you plan your next shot; including club selection, direction, and strength of shot.

  • Make a match with a sparkling jewel to destroy a large group of jewels, and power-up the Timer faster.
  • If you get stuck click the 'Hint' button, and Jewel Puzzle will point to a jewel you can move to make a match.

Richard's Rating: 3 out of 5.

Pro: If you want a challenging match 3 game, Jewel Puzzle fits the bill quite nicely!

Con: Jewel Puzzle is certainly a nice game to play, but to me it lacks a certain sophistication. It certainly is intense, but it lacks the subtlety of say, a Jewel Quest, or the charm of an Around the World in 80 Days.

Magic Towers Solitaire

Game Description: Magic Towers Solitaire is a fun and more skillful version of the classic game of tripeaks solitaire.

How to Play Magic Towers Solitaire:
  • Magic Towers Solitaire is a card game played with a standard deck of 52 cards. In addition, there is also one "wild card" (which looks like a face down card but is not actually part of the deck).
  • Each round begins with 18 cards dealt face down and 10 cards dealt face up. (These 28 cards form the layout, and are in the shape of three towers). There is also one card dealt face up at the bottom. This card is the first card in the discard pile. The remaing 23 cards form the deck and are left face down.
  • The object of the game is to move all 28 cards from the layout unto the discard pile, before the deck runs out of cards, to make it to the next round.
  • Any face up card from the layout that is either one rank lower or higher than the top card of the discard pile can be moved. For instance, if the top card on the discard pile is a 4, any 3 or 5 from the layout can be moved. (To move a card simply click on it).
  • Aces may be moved unto a King, and a King may be moved unto an Ace.
  • If you cannot move any cards from the layout onto the discard pile, click the next card button or the wild card.
  • The wild card (which again, is not actually a playing card) may be played at any time, but may only be used one time during a round. After you play the wild card, any face up card from the layout may be moved unto the wild card.
  • You may click the 'Undo' button, at any time, to undo your last move.
  • The game ends when you fail to clear all 28 cards from the layout.

Magic Towers Solitaire Game Scoring:
  • If you finish a round early, you get time bonus points.
  • Earn 5000 wild card bonus points for completing a round successfully without using the wild card.
  • Receive 1000 deck card bonus points for each card that remains in the deck when you successfully complete a round.
  • Earn a round number bonus for successfully completing a round. The round number bonus works like this: For round 1, earn 1000 round number bonus points. For round 2, earn 2000 round number bonus points. For round 3, earn 3000 round number bonus points, and so on.
  • Clicking the 'Undo' button will cost you 200 points for each click.

Magic Towers Solitaire Game Options:
  • The game may be paused by clicking the 'Menu' button located at the upper left corner of the game screen. Click the 'Resume' button to continue.
  • The game sounds may be turned on or off by clicking the microphone icon located just under the 'Menu' button near the upper left corner.

Magic Towers Solitaire Playing Tips:
  • Make sure you don't miss any moves during a sequence by simply overlooking a move.
  • As in all tripeaks solitaire games the order in which you play your cards very often determines the length of a sequence. So, play your cards smartly.
  • Don't be afraid to use the 'Undo' button. This can sometimes help you win a round.
  • When you use your wild card very often determines whether or not you will win a round. As you gain experience, you will get a better sense of when to play your wild card.
  • When the last card is dealt from the deck the game will ask you to 'Take Points.' Do not take the points until you have played things out. Sometimes you may have plays remaining and can actually win the round! And even if you can't win, you will still want to earn any extra points you can by playing any of the remaining cards. So, always play everything out completely before you click on 'Take Points.'

Richard's Rating: 4 out of 5.

Comments: Magic Towers Solitaire is a delightful version of tripeaks solitaire with excellent graphics and special effects. Anyone who likes tripeaks should enjoy this game.

Word Bump

Game Description: Can you make words fast enough to bump the Golden Tiles to the top?

How to Play Word Bump:
  • Click tiles and press SUBMIT WORD to make words from 2 to 8 letters.
  • Should you change your mind while making a word, press the CLEAR WORD button.
  • Bump all Golden Tiles to the top to advance to the next level.
  • The game is over if any Golden Tile drops below the board.

Word Bump Game Options:
  • The game sounds may be turned on or off by clicking the microphone icon located near the top of the game screen.

Word Bump Playing Tips:
  • You may submit the same word more than once even on the same level.
  • Use like-colored letters together to make power ups faster.
  • The power ups look like multi-colored balls. When you have earned a power up they will appear at the bottom of a column. You can drag the power ups from one column to another. Click on a power up to shoot it and bump the Golden Tile immediately to the top!
  • The power ups carry over to the next level. So try to use your power ups only when absolutely necessary. That is, only use a power up when one of the Golden Tiles gets dangerously close to the bottom.

Richard's Rating: 2 out of 5.

Pro: Word Bump is quite lively!

Con:
  • Where is the Pause button? (If there is a Pause button it must be well hidden because I don't see one.) It seems the only time you can rest is between levels which is certainly a shame.
  • There also seems to be no way to save your game progress?
  • Word Bump seems too easy and can get rather monotonous level after level after level after level. You get the idea.

Balls Painting

Game Description: Burst each ball to "paint" a picture in as little time as possible.

How to Play Balls Painting:
  • Aim with your mouse.
  • Left click to shoot a bullet.
  • When a bullet hits a ball, the ball will burst and scatter paint.
  • You must "paint" the whole picture by bursting balls in unpainted areas.
  • When the picture is complete, you may go to the next picture by clicking the 'Next Picture' button. (You may also go to the next picture before the picture is complete by clicking the 'End' button located at the lower right corner of the game screen. Then, click the 'Next Picture' button to continue the same game. Do not click the 'Play New' button because you will lose your 'Best Time' score).
  • Your goal is to complete each 48 piece picture in as little time as possible to lower your 'Best Time.'

Balls Painting Playing Tips:
  • Try to anticipate where the ball will be when it will be hit by the bullet. You can only make progress when a ball is hit in an upainted area of the picture.
  • One technique that can work is to place the crosshair on the cell you want to "paint." You still have to time your shot right, but at least you know you are firing in the right direction.
  • The hardest areas to "paint" are the top row and the four corner pieces. The top row is difficult because the other balls tend to get in your way and block your shot. I have had good success with the lower right corner piece by shooting my bullet a little sooner than I normally would. This seems to work well.

Richard's Rating: 2 out of 5.

Pro: Balls Painting has a most unusual concept. I have really never seen anything quite like it. It has fun special effects and sounds. The pictures are quite engaging. Overall, it is a rather nice game to play.

Con: It is too bad that Balls Painting does not have a Pause button. It certainly would have come in handy.

DropSum

Game Description: Drop tiles to make groups of tiles that add up to the required number.

How to Play DropSum: DropSum has three modes of play: Basic Game, Timed Mode, and Arcade Mode. My review will only cover the Basic Game. Although I have played both the Timed and Arcade modes, I don't feel I have played them enough to give a through review. So, you can learn those two on your own.
  • Select from three modes of play: Basic Game, Timed Mode, or Arcade Mode. (Hint: Start with the Basic Game. Later, you can move on to the Timed or Arcade Mode which have their own special rules.)
  • Drop the tiles from one of the 7 columns with your mouse.
  • Your goal is to make groups of tiles that add up to the required number.
  • The bigger the tiles group, the more points you score. A group of 3 scores 81 points. A group of 4 scores 256 points and so on.
  • Here is the tile progression. A tile starts out as grey. Make one group with that tile and the tile becomes blue. Make two groups and the tile turns yellow. Make three groups and the tile turns red. It is spinning and ready to explode. Make four groups and the tile explodes and is removed from the board.
  • Pop a red tile to create chain combinations for big scores. (When a red spinning tile explodes it leaves a gap. As the tiles above fall to fill the gap additional groups can be formed creating a chain reaction.)
  • Collect stars. The more you collect, the bigger the star bonus will be.
  • Press 'P' to pause the game and take a break! Press 'P' again to resume.
  • In Basic Game mode the game ends when the entire board fills and there are no more groups to be formed.

DropSum Game Options:
  • The music and game sounds may be turned on or off by clicking the two small icons located at the upper left corner of the game screen.

DropSum Playing Tips:
  • Anytime you have the opportunity to explode a spinning red tile do so. There are two reasons to do this. First, exploding the red tiles are what keep you in the game. Remember, the red tiles are the only tiles that can be removed from the board. Once the board fills up with tiles (in Basic Game mode) you lose. You must keep exploding the red tiles to make room for the new tiles you are constantly dropping unto the board. The second reason to explode the red tiles is this. As the other tiles drop down to fill the gaps left by the exploding red tiles this often leads to a huge chain reaction. Other groups are formed that add up to the required number. This can remove many tiles from the board at once which is exactly what you want.
  • Plan ahead. While luck will certainly help you some, the only way to be truly successful with DropSum is to plan ahead. Don't always think about how this tile can make a group, but more how this tile could lead to bigger things ahead.

Richard's Rating: 4 out of 5.

Comments: DropSum is one of those games that, at first glance, does not appear to be very interesting. But nothing could be further from the truth. DropSum is absoultely intriguing! While the Timed and Arcade modes are very good; my favorite mode, by far, is the Basic Game. The Basic Game allows you time to think and strategize. Whereas the Timed and Arcade modes force you to make quick decisions. Play DropSum at least three times and you will likely be hooked like I am. It really is that good.
