Ball Lines

Game Description: Destroy the balls by creating lines of 5 or more balls of the same color.

How to Play Ball Lines:

  • Click the 'Start' button.
  • In Ball Lines there are balls of different colors.
  • Move the balls so that 5 or more balls of the same color connect in a straight line. The lines can be horizontal, vertical, or diagonal.
  • To move a ball, first click on the ball you want to move. Then, click on the square where you want the ball to move to.
  • If after clicking on a ball should you decide that you don't want to move that ball after all, simply click on the ball a second time. This will release your mouse. Now, select another ball to move.
  • A ball can only move if there is a path by which to move. A ball cannot move if it is entirely blocked in by other balls.
  • When you connect balls of the same color in a line of 5 or more, the connected balls will be destroyed and removed from the board.
  • After each move that does not result in the completion of a line of 5 or more balls of the same color, new balls will be formed.
  • After each move that does result in the completion of a line of 5 or more balls, no new balls will be formed.
  • Each level has a required number of lines you must complete. (The number of lines you must complete to get to the next level is shown in the 'Next Level' box. Each time you complete a line, this number will decrease by one).
  • If you are able to complete the required number of lines, you go on to the next level and start with a fresh board.
  • The game ends when you run out of moves, and the whole board is filled with balls.

Ball Lines Game Options: The game options may be accessed by clicking the object that sort of looks like a gear shaft; located just to the right of the question mark near the lower left corner of the game. The game options are as follows:
  • The game sounds may be adjusted from high to low.
  • The music volume may be adjusted from high to low.
  • Full screen mode may be turned On or Off. (Yes, you can play Ball Lines in full screen mode!)

Ball Lines Playing Tips:
  • You can always tell where Ball Lines intends to insert the next balls by the four-pointed color stars. You can also see their colors. This is important information that will help you plan your next move, or moves.
  • Also, notice that I used the words 'intends to insert'. You can override one intended ball on a move, by moving your own ball to that square first. Let's say, for example, that you are intending to make a line of blue balls but you notice that Ball Lines intends to insert a yellow ball (indicated by a four-pointed yellow star) on the square where you were going to move your blue ball. Well, go ahead and move your blue ball right on top of the four-pointed yellow star. This will override where the new yellow ball would have been inserted. Learn this simple, but effective, technique and use it often.
  • Remember, that on moves where you are able to complete a line of 5 or more balls, no new balls will be placed on the board. New balls are only placed on the board when a move fails to complete a line. This can often be an important consideration when deciding where to make your next move.
  • Remain flexible. Although you may be planning certain lines, the game constantly changes with the formation of new balls. As new balls are introduced, you will often see better opportunities to make lines.

Richard's Rating: 4 out of 5.

Pro: Ball Lines is a superb game of strategy. Take a few minutes to learn this fascinating game, and you will be very glad you did.

Con: Sometimes, at least for me, it can be very difficult to tell the difference between the purple and blue balls. It certainly is disheartening to move what you think is a purple ball only to realize after you have made the move that the ball was actually blue, or vice versa.
