Legend of the Golden Mask

Game Description: Go along with a young girl as she travels to the jungles of South America to find a priceless golden mask in this hidden object adventure game.

How to Play Legend of the Golden Mask:

• Click the 'New Game' button if you are starting a new game, or click the 'Load Game' button if you wish to continue a saved game.
• If this is a new game, there are two different versions you can play. Select 'Score Mode' for a timed game. Select 'Casual Mode' to play without a time limit. (If you select 'Casual Mode', you will be leaving my site. 'Casual Mode' may only be played on the game developers' site. If you select 'Score Mode', you will remain here).
• After the story introduction, you will see a screen that says 'Pick Location'. Click the picture that says 'Home', which is the game's first scene.
• Although some levels have different types of puzzles, Legend of the Golden Mask is, at its heart, mostly a hidden object adventure game.
• Use your mouse to click on hidden items that are listed at the bottom of the screen.
• The clock is located near the lower left corner.
• Try to find all of the hidden objects before time runs out. As you find each hidden object, it will disappear from the scene upon your click.
• You should try to find other items too. The game will tell you what they are as you go along.
• Watch for glimmering items. They are special pieces. Always click on a glimmering item. They will help you succeed now, or later in the game.
• When you see a question mark in a scene, click on it. Each question mark you click on will earn you one hint. (There are always 3 hidden question marks in each scene, though some of them are difficult to find).
• The 'Hint' button is located near the lower right corner, just above the 'Pause' and 'Menu' buttons. (The number after the 'Hint' button shows you how many unused hints you currently have). Click the 'Hint' button to use one of your hints and Legend of the Golden Mask will show you where to find one of the items you are searching for.
• If you fail to find all of the required items before time expires... no problem. Simply click the 'Retry' button on the pop-up 'Failed!' screen. You may replay a level as many times as you need, until you succeed.
• When you need to replay a level the scene will remain the same, but at least some of the items you need to find will be different. This makes it easier because you will start to remember where some of the items are located. So each time you replay a level, it does get a little bit easier!
• There are also mini-games between some levels. Unlike level games, mini-games are not repeated. You only get one chance to solve it. You do not have to win the mini-game. If you fail, you will still go on to the next level. The only purpose of a mini-game is to earn extra points. If you are able to solve the mini-game before the time runs out, you will earn the extra points. If you are unable, you will not earn the extra points.
• Legend of the Golden Mask has 10 full levels of play. They are: level 1 -- Home, level 2 -- Shop, level 3 -- The Docks, level 4 -- Ship, level 5 -- The Port, level 6 -- The Camp, level 7 -- Lost Path, level 8 -- Entrance, level 9 -- Temple, and level 10 -- Treasure.
• Levels 4 and 7 are find the differences games. The other eight levels are hidden object games.
• For each of the ten levels, whether they are hidden object or find the differences, there will be two lists of items at the bottom. (You will not see the second list of items until you complete the first list).
• On levels 1 through 9 you only need to complete the first list to progress to the next level. After you complete the first list, the second list will appear on the screen. The second list is only used to gain extra points.
• Level 10, Treasure, is different. For level 10 you must fully complete both lists to complete level 10 (and to end the game).
• To save your game click the 'Menu' button located in the lower right corner. Then, click the top option that says 'Quit To Title (Saves Game)'.

Please Note: I apologize for the size of this game. Unfortunately, I do not have enough column width to properly display this game here on this page. If you are using Internet Explorer, you can change your zoom level to 125%. Or even better, change it to 150%. However, a much better solution is to play Legend of the Golden Mask in Full Screen mode. But, before you do, you may want to take a moment, or two, to read my review. Then, after playing your game, simply click the back button on your browser to return to this page.







Legend of the Golden Mask Game Options:

• To turn the game sounds on or off, first click the 'Menu' button located at the lower right corner. Then, click the third option from the top to toggle the sound on or off.
• Click the 'Pause' button, also located near the lower right corner, to pause the game. Click 'OK' to return to your game.

Legend of the Golden Mask Playing Tips:

• If you have to repeat a level, remember where the question marks are. Every level has 3 question marks. They are always in the same positions. But, some of them are very hard to find.
• The hints do not carry over from level to level. So, use them!
• Each time you repeat a level you will learn a little more, making it just a little easier each time.
• If you just start clicking very quickly randomly, the game will warn you that you will receive a time deduction. You can click randomly. Just don't do it too fast. A nice even, reasonable, pace should be okay.
• On level 9, the gears are really hard to find. Each time you repeat level 9, Legend of the Golden Mask will always begin by showing you one gear. Pay close attention to this because, if you repeat level 9 enough times, eventually it will show you every single gear, including the gears that are hardest to find.
• Don't forget to save your game.

Pro: Unlike most free flash games, Legend of the Golden Mask does not just give you two or three free levels and then ask you to buy the game. This is a complete free game with ten full levels! The quality of the graphics are absolutely top-notch and are comparable to any game you might pay for and download. The story, though typical of hidden object games (why is it always a young girl searching for her grandfather's treasue?), is well written and holds together better than most. If you like hidden object adventure, Legend of the Golden Mask should prove to be most enjoyable.

Con: Legend of the Golden Mask is very, very difficult. Given the complexity and difficulity of the game, three hints per level is totally inadequate. The game certainly could have benefited from more hints. Five or six hints per level would have been much better.
