Game Description: Enjoy a soothing stroll through dazzling locations around the globe in the World's Greatest Places Mahjong! Embark on a relaxing journey to some of the most beautiful places on Earth all while playing the classic game of Mahjong. Remove tiles in different layouts while visiting the Roman Coliseum, the Taj Mahal, and other magnificent sites.
How to Play World's Greatest Places Mahjong:
- There are 25 levels and 7 different types of games to play.
- Each game will be played several times throughout the course of the game.
- The 7 games are: Mahjong (this is regular Mahjong where you will select two matching tiles to remove them), Swap Tiles game (in this game you will select two tiles in order to place matching tiles next to each other), Find Pair game (locate the same pair of tiles within each layer and the rest of the tiles in the layer will disappear), Memory game (in this game you will click on blank tiles to find matching pairs), Find Logical Pair game (in this game you will find and match pairs of tiles that logically go together such as: bow and arrow, ship and anchor, lock and key, and so forth), Find Non-Pair game (in this game there are only two tiles in each layer that do not have a pair. Find them and the rest of the tiles in the layer will disappear), and the Four Rivers game (in this game you will select two matching tiles to remove them. They must be connected with an imaginary line which does not pass through any other tile).
- In every instance before you play each game, World's Greatest Places Mahjong will explain the rules and show you what to do.
- It is easy to remember what game you are playing because you will always see the game title at the top of the game screen.
- Each game has 3 help buttons located near the bottom left corner: Shuffle, Hint, and Undo.
- Click the 'Hint' button and World's Greatest Places Mahjong will show you a matching pair. (You can use the 'Hint' button as many times as you want, but you will need to wait until the 'Hint' button charges up before you can use it again).
- Click the 'Shuffle' button and World's Greatest Places Mahjong will rearrange the tiles for you. As far as I can tell, you can use this button as many times as you would like.
- Click the 'Undo' button to undo your last move.
- In addition to the 3 help buttons there are also 4 types of secret buttons to help you win.
- After you complete each level you will awarded from 1 to 3 stars, depending I suppose on how fast you were able to finish the level.
- If you earned less than 3 stars, and would like to try to earn more stars (which certainly can be fun), click the 'Replay' button to immediately replay the level again. (Of course if you earned 2 stars you could do worse and end up with only 1 star, but you can keep replaying a level as many times as you want until you earn those 3 stars). As far as I know, you only get this one opportunity to replay a level so you must do this immediately when offered. Once you click the 'Next' button, and go to the next level, I don't think you can go back and replay that level again until you finish all 25 levels and begin a brand new game.
- I don't believe there is any time limit with any of the games. So if you don't care about the stars, you can relax and take your time should you just want to play casually.
- World's Greatest Places Mahjong should automatically save your game progress. So as long as you use the same computer. and come back here to Richard's Game Reviews, you should be able to pick up where you last left off.
- There is one more thing I want to mention in my review, and that is this: After some levels you will occasionally be shown a screen where you will be asked if you would like to download the game. If you only want to play your game for free, here on Richard's Game Reviews, simply click the 'Continue' button and resume your free play.
Comments: Even without a time limit, and just playing casually, World's Greatest Places Mahjong has enough variety to keep things interesting. This game also has excellent graphics. The one big drawback is the inability to replay a level any time you want. As I previously mentioned, once you click the 'Next' button and advance to the next level of play, there is no going back until you finish all 25 levels. In fact, as far as I can determine, there is no 'New Game' button either. So even if you wanted to begin a new game you cannot do so. The only way to begin again back at level 1, as far as I know, would be to complete all 25 levels of play.
Richard's Rating: 4 out of 5.
