Crystal Battle

Game Description: Battle the computer in an exciting turn-based Match 3 game!

How to Play Crystal Battle:

  • Click the 'Play Game' button.
  • In Crystal Battle you will battle against your opponent, which is the computer.
  • Your goal is to destroy the computer's crystals before it destroys yours.
  • There are 3 types of crystals for each player: blue, pink, and green.
  • Each player begins the game with 100% of each of the 3 types of crystals.
  • Your statistics are shown by the 6 meters on the left.
  • The computer's statistics are shown by the 6 meters on the right.
  • There are 6 types of pieces on the board that you can match: the blue axe, the pink lightning bolt, the green archer's bow, the yellow hand, the turquoise shield, and the red heart.
  • The top 3 meters, for each player, shows how many blue, pink, and green crystals remain. This is indicated by a percentage.
  • The bottom 3 meters, for each player, are labeled: Double Hit, Shield, and Refill.
  • As each game begins, you always get the first turn.
  • After the first turn, play alternates between you and the computer.
  • You have 30 seconds for each turn. If your time gets down to the last 10 seconds, you will hear a warning sound. If you fail to make a move within the 30 seconds, you will lose your turn.
  • As with all Match 3 games, the idea is to swap adjacent pieces to make matches of 3 or more identical pieces in a row either hortizontally or vertically.
  • The two pieces you swap must be right next to each other either hortizontally or vertically, but not diagonally.
  • To swap the two pieces, you can either click on each piece one at a time, or use a dragging motion.
  • Match 3 or more blue axes to damage the blue crystal of your opponent.
  • Match 3 or more pink lightning bolts to damage the pink crystal of your opponent.
  • Match 3 or more green archer's bows to damage the green crystal of your opponent.
  • Match 3 or more yellow hands to power up your Double Hit meter. When your Double Hit meter is completely filled you can inflict extra damage to your opponents crystals with a double hit. The Double Hit only lasts for one turn. Then, you can start filling it up again.
  • Match 3 or more turquoise shields to power up your Shield meter. When your Shield meter is completely filled this will help you defend your crystals for one turn. Then, you can start filling it up again.
  • Match 3 or more red hearts to power up your Refill meter. When your Refill meter is completely filled, your crystals' health will be restored by 25%. You can fill up the Refill meter as many times as you need to.
  • Anytime you can make a match of 4 or more, you get an extra turn!
  • Should there be no more possible moves on the board, Crystal Battle will let you know. Then it will automatically reset the entire board.
  • You win if you are able to destroy all of the computer's crystals before it can destroy yours.
  • The computer wins if it can destroy all of your crystals first.

Crystal Battle Game Options:
  • The game sounds may be turned on or off by clicking the microphone icon located on the main game screen. (This must be done before you start the game because if you go back to the main menu after you begin, your game progress will be lost).
  • The game may be paused by clicking the 'Pause' button at the top. Click anywhere on the game screen to continue your game.

Crystal Battle Playing Tips:
  • Use strategy in making your matches. See where your opponent is the most vulnerable. Then, look for matches that will inflict the greatest damage to your opponent. For instance, if the computer's green crystals are already at 0% it does no good to make a match of green archer's bows. On the other hand, if the computer only has blue crystals remaining you would want to make matches of blue axes.
  • Of course, you also have to play defense as well as offense. Let's take the previous example that I mentioned about the green crystals where the computer's green crystals were at 0%. Now, let's suppose that you only have green crystals remaining. In that instance, you may want to make a defensive move by making a match of green archer's bows so the computer cannot do so on its turn; and thereby protect your green crystals.
  • Always try to make matches of 4 or more. Not only does this give you an extra turn, but sometimes it will open up even bigger and better moves.
  • I would say that of the 3 meters at the bottom (Double Hit, Shield, and Refill); that Refill (the one that you fill up by matching the red hearts) is probably the most important one. That, however, does not mean that Double Hit and Shield should be ignored. I just feel that Refill, by restoring the health of your crystals probably provides the greatest benefit. Of course, each game is different, and it all depends on how that particular game is going.

Richard's Rating: 4 out of 5.

Comments: It is somewhat unusual to find a turn-based Match 3 game. There does not seem to be very many of them around. This one, is excellent! If you are a Match 3 fan, give Crystal Battle a try. I think you will probably enjoy the experience.

Other Games: If you enjoy Crystal Battle, you may also like to play Battlegemz. Battlegemz is also a turn-based Match 3 game similar to Crystal Battle, but with the one big difference... you play against an actual human opponent in real time!
