Fairy Solitaire

Game Description: Try to clear the entire board by making matching pairs before time runs out.

How to Play Fairy Solitaire:

  • Click the 'Play' button.
  • Each level begins with some cards face down (the pack), 3 cards face up immediately to the right of the pack (the discard pile), numerous cards scattered around the playing field with some face up and some face down (the board), and a two space placeholder area (the waste pile).
  • The pack and the waste pile appear in various places on each level you play. That is, they are not always displayed in the same area. You can identify the pack because it will always have a yellow border around it. You can identify the waste pile because it will have a golden hinge on each of its two stacks.
  • All cards that are not in the pack, the discard pile, or the waste pile, are part of the board.
  • The goal of Fairy Solitaire is to clear the entire board unto the waste pile before time runs out.
  • The time, level, and score are displayed near the upper left side of the game screen.
  • A card may be moved unto the waste pile by first clicking on the card and then clicking on another card of the same rank. For instance, you can click on a six, then click on any other six and the two sixes will move to the waste pile.
  • Any face up card (except for any card already in the waste pile) may be clicked. This means you can match either two cards from the board, two cards from the discard pile, or match one card from the board with one card from the discard pile.
  • When you run out of matches click the pack (yellow border) and Fairy Solitaire will deal more cards to the discard pile.
  • When all cards from the pack are exhausted click the 'reset' button on the pack (yellow border) to reset the cards in the pack. Then, click the pack again to deal cards back to the discard pile.
  • Click the 'Shuffle' button located at the top of the game to display new cards in the discard pile at any time.
  • Click the 'Undo' button, also located at the top of the game to undo your last move.
  • Should you get stuck (not likely), you may click the 'hint' button located at the top and Fairy Solitaire will show you a move by dimming two cards that you can match.
  • Click the 'Pause' button to pause your game. Click 'Play' to resume.
  • DO NOT click the 'Menu' button at the top. If you do you will lose your score and you have to begin again at level 1.
  • If you are able to move all cards from the board unto the waste pile before time runs out, you will complete the level and move on to the next round. (Remember, you do not have to clear the discard pile... only the board).
  • Should you fail to clear the entire board before time runs out you lose. (Note: Sometimes with you may encounter a situation where it is impossible to complete the level because the card on top will have its matching pair underneath it, and of course there is no way to get to it. When this happens Fairy Solitaire will recognize that you cannot complete the level through no fault of your own but only because of an unlucky deal, and will not penalize you. Instead, it will display the 'Level Completed' screen and you may advance to the next level just as though you had completed the level successfully).
  • Earn extra points by finishing a level quicker.

Fairy Solitaire Game Options:
  • The sound effects may be turned on or off by clicking the musical note icon located at the upper right corner of the game.
  • The music may be turned on or off by clicking the microphone (or bell) shaped icon, also located near the upper right corner of the game just under the muscial note icon.

Fairy Solitaire Playing Tips:
  • Face down cards on the board will be revealed when all cards on top of them are played. If you have a choice of cards to play, always play the card that will result in other face down cards being revealed. For instance, if you have two kings available to play and one of the kings has a hidden face down card underneath it and the other king has no card underneath it, select the one that has the card underneath it. The quicker you can get more cards turned over the better, because this gives you more opportunities to make a match.

Richard's Rating: 3 out of 5.

Pro: Fairy Solitaire has nice sounds and graphics. It is a fun, and certainly pleasant, game to play. It starts out easy, but gets more difficult as you advance through the levels. (Level 15 is a brute!)

Con: There are two small complaints I have about Fairy Solitaire. They really are rather petty complaints. But for some reason I feel compelled to mention them. (Who knows, maybe I am just having a cranky day?) Well, anyway. Here goes. First, it is somewhat bothersome, at least to me, that the pack and waste pile move around from level to level. It sure would have been nice to always have had them in the same place, rather than having to look for them each time. Second, why allow a situation where it is impossible to complete a level then only to be told 'Level Completed.' Somehow that just doesn't sit well with me.
