Castle Wars 2

Game Description: Destroy your enemy's castle, or be the first to build a 100 storey castle. Crush, or be crushed!

How to Play Castle Wars 2:

  • From the main menu select 'Campaign' or 'Practice.' ('Practice' lets you play against an opponent of equal strength. 'Campaign' lets you play against opponents from 3 tribes: Easy, Medium, or Hard. Each tribe has numerous opponents which you will battle one at a time).
  • The purpose of this game is to be the first to build a 100 storey castle or to destroy your opponents castle.
  • In this game, cards are used to perform different actions; and each card has its own action (building, attacking etc). Your job is to select, and use, the cards you think will be most useful and help you win.
  • To find out more about a card, during play, click the 'Card info' button at the lower right corner of the game.
  • Each card requires resources to be used (bricks, crystals, weapons etc.) If you currently have enough resources to use a card, the card will be lit up. To use a lit up card just click on it. Dimmed cards cannot be used because you currently do not have enough resources.
  • If you don't have any cards lit up when it is your turn, you must click the 'Discard' button. This button allows you to discard up to 3 cards. (After you click the 'Discard' button, click on the card or cards you wish to eliminate. If you change your mind, click on a card a second time to put it back in your hand. When done, click OK). You may also click the 'Discard' button when you simply want some new cards. However, each time you use 'Discard' you will lose a turn.
  • In 'Campaign' mode, you can battle any opponent from any of the 3 tribes anytime you want. To reset 'Campaign' mode back to the beginning, so you can battle any of the opponents you have already defeated, click the 'New' button located at the lower left corner on the map page. It is not necessary to defeat every opponent within a tribe. You may switch to either of the other two tribes after a match by clicking the 'Change tribe' button which is also located at the bottom of the map page.
  • 'Campaign' mode should automatically save your game progress as long as you have not turned off the default 'Auto save' feature.

Castle Wars 2 Game Options: All game options can be accessed by clicking the symbol in the upper right corner of the game screen (the one that looks like 2 circles). There are 3 separate tabs.
  • The Audio tab controls the Music and sfx volumes. You can also change the sound track. There are 5 different sound tracks available. But, you probably really don't need to change this because the game seems to use all 5 sound tracks as you progress through the various matches.
  • From the Video tab you may select an Image quality of High, Medium, or Low. Fullscreen Mode may allow you to change the game screen size on some web sites but that feature will not work here on Richard's Game Reviews. (However, I have installed my own full screen link directly below the game. So, if you want to play Castle Wars 2 in Full Screen mode, which is very fun, you do have that option). There is also a control for Fade speed.
  • The Game tab really does not need any changes. The default for Card speed is set for fast and you will probably have more fun if you leave it that way. The Action and Castle animations can be turned off. But, why would you want to? The Auto save feature can be disabled. But, then your game may not save automatically.

Castle Wars 2 Playing Tips:
  • If this is your first time playing Castle Wars 2 click 'How To Play' from the main menu. The game will take you through a brief guide and explain some of the basic rules. It doesn't explain everything, of course, but this is a good starting point.
  • Don't worry if you don't understand all of the rules... or even any of the rules. Just start playing. The best way to learn this game is to simply start playing. The game is very intuitive. In no time at all you will be playing at lightning speed.
  • If you are playing 'Campaign' mode begin with the Easy tribe, then work your way up to Medium and Hard. 'Practice' mode is also very fun, and is a great game in and of itself.
  • Watch the Stat bar at the top of the game. These stats show your, and your opponents, resources. Your stats are on the left. Your opponents stats are on the right. The most important stat, by far, is the castle stat. (This is the one that is near the center. It looks like a castle with a tower on each side.) Pay extreme attention to the number under your castle stat and your opponents castle stat. This tells you the height of each castle. Remember, you and your opponent are both building a castle. If your castle height gets to 100 storeys first you win. If your opponent is able to build its castle to 100 first... you lose!
  • When your opponent does not have a wall up in front of its castle... this can be an opportune time to attack! Without a wall to absorb part, or all, of your attack you can inflict maximum damage to your opponents castle.
  • Learn how to 'read' the cards. The top left corner of the card tells you the type of resource you must spend to use the card. The number in the top right corner of the card tells you how much of this resource must be spent. And, probably the most important part of the card... the bottom, tells you what the card will do.
  • When you know that your opponent has used a 'Magic Defense' card, (which is like a magic shield that will protect its wall and castle from the next attack), try not to waste a large attack card. Instead try to use a smaller, weaker, attack card. This is because the shield will repel most, if not all, attack cards. Using any attack card will remove the shield, but no damage will be done. So, keep the bigger attack card if you can, and just waste the smaller one.

Richard's Rating: 5 out of 5.

Comments: Castle Wars 2 is phenomenal! The animation is absolutely extraordinary. The graphics and audio effects are exceptional and clever. And the wonderful music ties everything together in one perfect package. (Oh, and it also happens to be a fantastic strategic game as well!) I cannot even begin to tell you how truly great this game is in mere words. The only way you will truly know, is to play this game and experience it yourself.

  1. Hello!
I am addicted to this game but am unable to get the multiplayer working.. Once I click "multiplayer", and then "load" i get an actionscript note that says this ---> ArgumentError: Error #1063: Argument count mismatch on Storage(). Expected 2, got 1.

.... it gives me the choice to dismiss or continue, but either choice just loads a black screen! Does anyone know how to fix this? I want to use my sweet deck and defeat castles around the interworld!

  2. Hello Avalon, this is Richard from Richard's Game Reviews.

I tried clicking the 'Multiplayer' button here at Richard's Game Reviews, and after clicking 'Continue', I too only got a blank screen. I also tried at several other sites and had the same results.

However, I think I may have a solution for you. Try the link below. (Actually it is not a link, so you will need to copy and paste it into your web browser). This is the web address of the Castle Wars 2 game developer site at ninjakiwi. They are the people who made the game.

I think originally the multiplayer version was designed to be played exclusively at ninjakiwi. Although ninjakiwi says that the multiplayer version is now available everywhere, they do acknowledge that there may be bugs in their system. So, my advice is to go there and give it a try. I did, and I had no trouble logging in as a guest.

I hope this helps. Let me know how it works out for you. Perhaps you could post another comment below after you try it? Good luck on crushing those other castles!

  5. Hi Anonymous,

The answer to your question is, Castle Wars 2 was created by a brilliant young programmer named Mads S. Lundemo. If you would like to find out more about him, here is the link to his site: http://m0rkeulv.net/.

Mads did the coding for the game. Of course, with a project this big, many other people were involved. If you would like to know who did the artwork, the animations, the sound effects, the music, and so forth, just click the 'Credits' link at the bottom of the main menu screen.

I hope this answers your question.

    Richard, from Richard's Game Reviews.
