Word Slider

Please Note: If the Word Slider game is not functioning as it should, I apologize. I am hoping that the person who made this game will eventually fix the problem. In the meantime, I invite you to play some of my other word games that I have here on Richard's Game Reviews.

Game Description: Word Slider is a word search puzzle that lets you slide letters around the board. Test your word knowledge and strategy skills on a new puzzle every day!

How to Play Word Slider:

  • Each day there is a new puzzle!
  • You may play the puzzle of the day, or play any number of random puzzles.
  • Select words (horizontally, vertically, or diagonally) by clicking on the first letter and dragging the mouse.
  • Words must be at least two letters in length.
  • Click the Submit button to enter each word, removing its letters from the board.
  • If the word is in the dictionary, you'll earn points. If not, you'll lose points!
  • Proper names like ("George") and acronyms like ("NASA") are not recognized.
  • If you manage a perfect game (using all letters with no points deducted) you'll get a 10 point bonus!
  • Points for each letter are the same as in Scrabble.
  • The longer the word, the more points it's worth! (Each letter of a word two letters in length is multiplied by two. Each letter of a word three letters in length is multiplied by three, and so forth.)
  • You can also click on letters to slide them along paths of the puzzle board... if another letter isn't blocking the way!
  • The game ends when all letters have been used... whether in actual words or not!
  • You may replay the puzzle of the day, or any random puzzle, (to get a higher score) by clicking on the 'new puzzle' button located at the lower right of the game screen.

Word Slider Game Options:
  • You may turn the sound on or off by clicking the microphone icon located at the bottom right hand corner of the game screen.

Word Slider Playing Tips:
  • If you are playing the puzzle of the day Word Slider will give you a starting word. Use it, because it is usually a long word worth extra points!
  • Plan ahead and try to figure out how you are going to use difficult letters like 'z' and 'q'.
  • Remember, to use the letter 'q' you will almost always need an accompanying letter 'u'. So plan for this too.
  • You will get more points with longer words.
  • Rearrange letters by sliding them along the path where space is available to form longer words.
  • If your word isn't recognized, you'll lose points! (But sometimes it can be good strategy to lose a few letters on purpose by making a word that won't be recognized in order to make a longer word!)

Richard's Rating: 3 out of 5.

Comments: Word Slider is quite challenging and fun. It might even help you to improve your vocabulary. I like the fact that it has a new puzzle every day. But the random puzzles are also very nice.

  1. What has happened to Wordslider? It has been saying "error or malformed puzzle data" for weeks. Such a shame as it was a really good game.

  2. To Anonymous,

Thank you so much for letting me know that there is a problem with the Word Slider game. I was not aware that Word Slider was experiencing any problems.

This gives me another opportunity to remind all of my readers that if you ever see a game that is missing, or not working as it should, please do what Anonymous did and post a comment. With hundreds of games published here, on Richard's Game Reviews, it is impossible for me to monitor every single game. Unless someone tells me that there is a problem, there is no way for me to know unless I accidently find out for myself.

Well Anonymous, normally when I find out that a game has a problem I can usually find a workable solution in a matter of hours. Usually the solution is to redo some of the game code. Unfortunately with Word Slider, this is not the case. The problem is inside the game itself. This means that only the game developer, (the person who created the game), can fix the problem. But I do want you to know that I did just send Aaror Maupin, the Word Slider game developer, a private message letting him know that his game is not generating any puzzles. That is really all I can do on my end. I do wish I could do more, but sometimes these things are out of our control. Now we all just have to wait, and hopefully he will fix his game.

  4. Hi Anonymous,

Thanks for your very kind comment. I really appreciate it.

Upon further review, I found out that the game developer's name is not Aaror Maupin as I originally thought, but it is Aaron Maupin. I was able to find him on Facebook, and I just sent him a Facebook message. I asked him if he was aware that his Word Slider game was not generating any puzzles, and I asked if he was actively working on finding a solution.

So what I suggest that you do Anonymous, if you have a Facebook account, is that you also send him a Facebook message and ask if he is going to fix his Word Slider game. Just do a Facebook search for Aaron Maupin. The one that you want is the guy who lives in Columbus, Ohio and knows Japanese. He is the guy in the orange shirt. Maybe if enough people pester him, he will get working on this. So go ahead and send him a message. It may not do any good, but it can't hurt to try.

In the meantime, there are a couple of games on my site that I would like to recommend that you try. The first one is Word Drop. There are actually two games named Word Drop that I have. The one I would recommend is the original Word Drop game, the one that does not have a time limit. That is the one that most people seem to like. The other game that I would like you to try is Wordstacks. Wordstacks is my favorite word game that I have here on Richard's Game Reviews. It does take a little bit of getting used to. You may have to play it a couple of times before you get the hang of it. But since you like Word Slider, I think the chances are pretty good that you would also enjoy Wordstacks.
